Default Thunderhead Keep, no seriously

im going to be very blunt, i have no friends who play guild wars, and 99% of the pugs i've been in are total idiots. so this means i play the game with only henchies.

i've spent over 15 hours trying to beat thunderhead keep. i can't do it because it's impossible to pull and the king always runs into battle agroing everything, and my healers are often to busy attacking things to heal the king.
he most frequently dies not int eh heat of battle, but at the end of a battle when there are one 1-3 mobs left and no one is healing him.

is there some reason the Anet wants this mission to hard in the most retarded way possible?

It's not hard, just PUGs are stupid. And I've done it with PUGs before.

I only ever die if i mess up big time, the king is the one who dies.
This mission is only hard because of the terrible AI, and mostly on the part of the King, but obviously the Healer henchis ought to know that healing the king is more important that attacking a mob.

edit: thanks for the link, but i should mention i am Ranger, and thus cannot get into a pug to save my life.

If you're either very desperate or in a rush, theres a (IMO) rather lame method for beating the end if you have a human warrior or ranger.

Have the human warrior or ranger bring a couple defensive stances/signet. At the end, just have the designated tank grab one of the torches used for the bonus. Stay back near the king and use the torch to grab aggro.

I personally dislike exploiting holding aggro, but it works well enough that your teamates could consist blind chipmunks or even be a typical PUG and you wouldn't have any problems with the siege

Yeah the agro torch is a simple way.

But another is take 2 trappers and a wells necro. Jus body block around the king, trap the hell out of it, and just let the necro eat up those corpses with well of power and well of suffering.

You'll find those "two" methods complement eachother perfectly.

Not only that, with rangers to trap the steps and a warrior-torch stancing, this missions is such a blowover I could have had a class of college and still balanced this on the side <in terms of difficulty? None!>

Trapping each side, keeping a monk and a warrior stancing with a torch in the back near king draws aggro up the steps through the traps. = WOMP dead!

I have a friend who beat the mission using only henchies and he found it to be alot easier than grouping up with a bunch of people. I've tried this myself only once and actually got farther than ever before with a group.

I usually died at the very end with the henchies. But the time taken to get to the fort is amazing. The henchman are going MUCH FASTER than any PUG I found. You can even aggro two groups without problems.

Eventually, you'll find a good group, the key is stay near the king, never try to defend the gates, I never beaten the missions that way; we would end up the healer running both sides and they die anyway..

If you have two monks with you, make sure they are BOTH healer, you don't really need a protective monk, you need healing. Make sure with them they are healer. I ended up this weekend in Ring Of Fire with two monks, 1 smiter and 1 protect...

You could always try to find you an active guild. Lion's Arch, Droknar's, Ascallon, there are always lots of guild looking for new members. Ask for help, but don't forget to help them in return if they need you

Anyway, good luck!

I assume the character you are trying to bring through is a R/W. Don't depend on the monks to heal the king. Bring Healing Spring and do it yourself. I have not tried it myself but i believe you can do it this way.

I found this mission to be easy with henchies..with the proper set up.

Actually I finished the mission easily defending both the gates. The other two times my PUG decided to stay near the King and that turned out very badly. There arent really any key points at all, just play intelligently and almost anything will work.
